HUD also plans to shutter offices in Fresno and Sacramento, and concentrate workers in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

A homeownership center in Santa Ana will also remain open.

In all, the agency plans to close 16 of its 80 locations nationwide.

“The closure plan provides for optimal use of HUD’s staffing resources, better results for HUD customers, and greater efficiencies for American taxpayers,” said HUD Regional Coordinator Ophelia Basgal.

“Like families and businesses across the country, we cannot continue to operate like we did decades ago. America has changed, communities have changed and we must change,” she said.

The agency hopes to save as much as $150 million in administrative costs and leases over the next decade.
